Profile
Four artist’s studios and two artist’s residences are to be accommodated on the site of two worker’s cottages on the edge of Albert Park beside Dublin City University. The studios are housed in a simple compact box anchored to the park side of the compound wall, among a dense copse of trees. Four rooms of different sizes and proportions share a serrated roof profile turned to enjoy exclusive north-light.
This roof profile creates alternating gable proportions on all four facades. The building is to be constructed in fair-faced pigmented concrete, dry-lined on the inside with insulation and orientated-strand-board. A light brass trellis externally will pull the dense planting up the façade on the three park-side facades.
Each studio enjoys one large picture window, with glazed and metal mesh sliding elements offering a number of possible working environments. 2006—2008 Albert Cottages, Dublin 11, Ireland Civic / Cultural Buildings Client: Dublin City Council Goethe Institut Dublin 37 Merrion Square East, Dublin 2, Ireland Serlachius Museum Extension Tampere, Finland Extension and Restoration of the Jahn-Museum Freyburg / Unstrut, Germany Atrium House II Sandyford, Co Dublin, Ireland
