Broadstone Architects is an architectural studio with a diverse range of residential and commercial projects. The two founding directors Garbhan Doran & Tom Hunt have over 40 years experience working in Ireland and Internationally. Garbhan studied at Edinburgh College of Art and Technisches Universitat, Berlin, completing his masters in Architecture in 1999. He worked on residential, commercial and educational projects for DeBlacam & Meagher from 1999 to 2006 when he established Garbhan Doran Architects before forming Broadstone Architects with Tom. Tom studied at Edinburgh College of Art, The University of Kansas and The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Copenhagen, graduating in 1999.
He worked extensively on commercial, residential and retail projects in Dublin while working for Brian O’Halloran & Associates, HKR and CODA before forming Broadstone Architects with Garbhan. Stephen O’Brien studied in Dublin Institute of Technology, graduating in 2017, when he joined Broadstone Architects. He previously worked in KOBW Architects in Cork and (Se)arch Architekten in Stuttgart before completing his studies in Dublin.
Sustainability Focus
Broadstone Architects, based on Avondale Avenue in Dublin, is a design-led practice focused on the adaptive reuse and deep retrofitting of existing buildings. By preserving historic building stock and upgrading thermal performance, they avoid wholesale demolition to significantly reduce embodied carbon.
