Jim McCabe founded Ferm Engineering in 2006 after having previously spent over 20 years working with Abbott Ireland in Donegal Town. The opportunity arose to setup a niche business that catered to and focused specifically around Renewable & Energy Efficiency Solutions which was to be the future. Jim trained with ESB as an Electrician during the 70s and continued to gain his Honours Degree in Business from Magee College, Unversity of Ulster in 1999.

With a strong background in technical electrics, mechanics, leadership and business, we combined his skills and experience with a passion for business to create Ferm Engineering just before the recession. Despite the challenging 10 years that followed for many businesses, Ferm Eng continued to grow due to the skills and strength of the team and the portfolio of expert M&E services provided to our clients. James is over 20 years in the industry. He trained in electrical/instrumentation starting with Unifi Textured Yards Europe Ltd. After Unifi James relocated to Dublin and worked at the internationally recognized Wyeth Bio-pharmacy Plant in Grange Castle, Co.

Dublin (now Pfizer) and the Intel Ireland, Leixlip Campus in Co. He was responsible for commissioning of process and utility systems in accordance with FDA and GMP requirements, all this work was carried out while working in a high-level clean environment. After a few years in Dublin, James relocated to Hammerfest Norway, working on the Snohvit Statoil LNG Plant (the worlds northernmost LNG Plant).
