FPS Environmental is a UK consultancy specialising in flood risk, drainage, civil engineering and environmental services. Our work covers both investigation and design, and that combination shapes everything we do. We support new development through planning and detailed design, and we investigate existing sites for asset owners, insurers, local authorities and government, where issues need to be properly understood before they can be resolved.

We do not produce reports to tick boxes. We investigate sites, understand how they behave, and design from that understanding. Flood risk, drainage, levels, planning constraints and environmental sensitivities are not separate workstreams to us.

They are the same site, and they need to be understood together. FPS was founded in 2012 by Simon Crowther , a Civil Engineer and Chartered Water and Environmental Manager. The reason the company exists is personal.

Simon’s own home flooded in 2007, before the property had any flood resilience measures in place. He went on to defend the property successfully against subsequent flooding, and his experience witnessing poor advice, and reactive engineering became the founding logic of the consultancy. Simon studied Civil Engineering at the University of Nottingham, and that engineering grounding still defines our approach.
