Jim Morrison Architects was established in 1996 by Jim Morrison and the practice initially worked on a wide variety of commercial, hospitality and residential projects, but gradually began to develop a specialisation in the residential sector. Jim now operates as a sole principal of the practice and specialises entirely in bespoke house extensions and renovations. Before setting up in practice, Jim Morrison was a senior architect with Building Design Partnership (BDP) where he was project architect on such schemes as the Laganside Buscentre, The Cecil Ward Building on Linenhall St, Belfast and Foyle House Tax office in Derry. He was also involved in the Castle Court Shopping Development in Belfast. Prior to that, Jim worked in the Architectural office of Spilsted Heatley Associates, in San Francisco, California, having graduated from Liverpool University School of Architecture in 1984.

"We knew what additional space we wanted but had no idea of how to get there. Although we wanted a new and modern extension, we wanted it to compliment and make the most of the existing house and property – bringing old and new together in a seamless fashion. Jim not only designed the perfect space that has become the hub of our home, drawing people and the outdoors in, but also showed respect to the old house turning it from a compact 4-bedroom home into a beautiful 5-bedroom home.
