There are currently 18 species of bats in the UK, 17 of which are known to breed here. All bats are protected under the 1981 Wildlife & Countryside Act (as amended) and are listed in Schedule 2 of the Conservation of Habitats & Species (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 and bat populations have suffered severe decline over the last century. Bats are natural pest controllers eating thousands of insects every night and require different roosting conditions throughout the year, they can be found in a variety of buildings, tunnels, trees or bridges.

Our surveyors hold Natural England Class 2 and Natural Resources Wales bat survey licences with inspections/assessments undertaken at any time of the year and frequently the results can be conclusive which can save time and expense for Planning Applicants. We work on projects both small and large, from trees and barns up to castles and stately homes. During our preliminary roost assessment, if evidence or suitability for roosting bats is identified we have extensive experience in undertaking further detailed surveys to provide comprehensive results and top quality reports as efficiently as possible.

When a preliminary survey does find evidence of or suitability for roosting bats, our extensive experience in undertaking further detailed surveys  including dusk/dawn, hibernation and activity surveys providing accurate, comprehensive results and top quality reports as efficiently as possible. Habitat surveys that we undertake are particularly beneficial for proposed wind turbines, road schemes or land proposed for future development where our expertise comes into its own when planning, organising and undertaking habitat transects. We offer the full suite of common bat surveys, along with numerous more specialist survey types which require additional accreditation.
