Ground source systems typically cost more due to the groundworks needed for the ground loop. Available for air source and ground source heat pumps in England and Wales, applied upfront by your MCS-certified installer and deducted from your invoice — no repayment, no income cap. A temporary uplift for eligible off-gas-grid properties, running 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027.

Air-to-air heat pumps qualify for a smaller £2,500 grant. MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) certification means an installer has been independently assessed against UK quality standards for renewable heating installations. It's required both for installation quality assurance and to claim the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant — only MCS-certified installers can apply it on your behalf.
